California PATHE Mentorship Scholarship

Achieving access to higher education presents significant challenges for Latino students, both for those looking to continue their studies after high school and for those seeking to return to their education. According to the Latino Policy & Politics Institute at UCLA, Latinos constituted the largest racial and ethnic demographic in California, making up 39% of the state's population in 2019. Despite their numerical prominence, the Latino community faces persistent disparities in higher education access and attainment. While there have been strides toward increasing Latino college enrollment, a notable gap remains. A disproportionate number of Latino students either do not apply to college, or if they do, fail to graduate. Furthermore, the completion rates for Latino students who do enroll are alarmingly low. For a deeper understanding of these issues, the 2021 State of Higher Education for Latinx Californians Report offers comprehensive insights and statistics.

The mission of our mentorship program is to offer financial assistance to Latino students while also fostering the development of a critical awareness of their identities within a collegiate environment. Our goal is to equip them with the knowledge and strategies necessary for navigating a successful college journey.

As an organization committed to the advancement of Latinos, the California Region of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda, Fraternity, Inc. is dedicated to providing access to higher education. We achieve this through educational workshops within our community and by awarding scholarships. Starting in 2024, our aim is to serve as a steadfast support system for Latinos pursuing higher education.
