our greatest asset: Hermanos

La Unidad Latina’s greatest strength is its Hermanos. Bound by our shared commitment to our values, we support one another across generations, chapters, and regions.

Our shared networks, experience and commitment to mentoring one another have allowed us to close the achievement gap across some of the most competitive institutions, disciplines, and industries. Please see the "Professional Pathways" link below for select California Hermano bios:

Our journey begins as undergrads at USC, UC Berkeley, UCLA, and UCI where we hone our academic and professional development. We strive to lead by example for the next generation of underrepresented leaders by pursuing careers in business, medicine, law, education, government, and STEM.

Since 2006, California has produced 94 Hermanos of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. across USC, UC Berkeley, and UCLA. Including our region’s 94 homegrown Hermanos, the California region is home to roughly 200 alumni who have relocated to the “Golden State”, from Sacramento down to San Diego. Please learn more about our Alpha Phi (USC), Beta Eta (UC Berkeley), and UCLA Provisional chapters below.

UC BERKELEY: beta eta CHAPTER HERMANOS (2011-2021)

Beta Eta Hermanos sought to build a unique space for themselves, the community, Latinx student leaders, and others that they could call their own. They accomplished this goal by bridging the University, first-generation college students, and communities of color in the founding of La Unidad Latina in 2011. The chapter has consistently focused on uplifting and supporting disenfranchised communities, both as undergrads and alumni through education, mentorship, and leadership across disciplines, including higher education, public policy, law, engineering, business, and STEM fields.

UC Los Angeles: Provisional chapter (2021-2022)

At the University of California, Los Angeles, Latinxs make up less than 30% of the student population. This data shows the need for spaces and organizations like La Unidad Latina to be a part of and take leadership in implementing safe, critical, and inclusive environments where all Latinxs feel supported and uplifted to be successful in higher education. In the Summer of 2018, two interested gentlemen began connecting with male-identifying Latinxs on campus. They eventually formed an interest group of individuals who felt inspired to contribute and uplift the communities with which they identified. The idea to bring La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity Incorporated to the University of California, Los Angeles was one full of ambition that is still today inspired by the adversities which the interest group has faced and is working towards as first-generation Latinxs on campus.

UC Irvine: Provisional Chapter (2024)

As a fraternity, we strive to support Latinx students through community, culture, and hermandad. In 2024, we had the great opportunity of expanding to UC Irvine. As an organization, we aim to uplift the Latinx community on and off campus at UCI, a campus where Latinx students are disproportionately represented. In service of our community, we continue to build our chapter to serve as a pillar for the Latinx community at UCI.

University of San Diego: Provisional Chapter (2025)

In the Fall of 2023, two interested gentlemen at the University of San Diego set out to build a unique space for themselves, their peers, and the broader Latino community—a space rooted in leadership, support, and empowerment. They worked to bridge the University, first-generation college students, and communities of color through the founding of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Incorporated at USD. Recognizing that Latinos make up a relatively small portion of the student body, they established an interest group to address the need for safe, inclusive spaces where Latino students could thrive. Through shared experiences and a collective commitment to uplifting their communities, the group worked tirelessly to lay the foundation for lasting change. The vision to establish La Unidad Latina at USD was born from ambition and resilience, fueled by the challenges they faced as first-generation Latino students. Today, that same spirit continues to drive their mission of building a strong foundation for future generations at the University of San Diego.

CHapman university: Provisional Chapter (2025)

In Spring 2024, two passionate first-generation Latinx students at Chapman University began sharing their experiences of underrepresentation and the lack of culturally affirming spaces on campus. Their conversations sparked a larger movement, eventually bringing together eight men united by a shared purpose: to create a space that uplifts Latinx identity, fosters leadership, academic excellence, and community impact. Rather than wait for change, they chose to lead it—founding a chapter of La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda Fraternity, Inc. Their journey, rooted in brotherhood and culture, continues as a legacy of empowerment for future generations.
